The “La Finca” Project

The La Finca Project has been an initiative that has been in the works for many months and we have been very excited to share it with everyone. This is a collaborative project between Singh Beans and La Finca Distribution Corporation. The objective is to bring people to together and to help create a community to raise money for the farmers protests in India and all over the world.

La Finca Distribution Corporation, is a direct trade specialty coffee distributor in North Vancouver that works directly with farmers in Nicaragua. La Finca Distribution reached out to Singh Beans in 2020 due to mutual respect and a love of coffee. After a few meetings with La Finca, we knew that we wanted to work with them in some capacity. A coffee roast to raise money for charity just made sense.

During 2020 the farmers from all over India marched to Delhi to protest against the three farm acts that were enacted by Parliament. The laws would destroy the Mandi System, where the farmers can sell their harvested crops at an auction and would receive the government mandated minimum price. The new laws would force farmers to sell their goods to large corporations with no guaranteed minimum price. As the majority of people in India rely on agriculture to survive, this would have such a huge impact to one of the largest populations in the world. This is why the farmers will continue to protest until the bills have been repealed and they can keep their way of life in tact.

People all over the world have since joined in the protest to show that they stand strong against the governments actions. Khalsa Aid, a charity that Singh Beans UK works closely with, has been at the forefront with helping provide food, shelter, and amenities for the protesters in India. We wanted to help in some capacity but it felt that our personal donations were not impactful enough. Once La Finca Distribution reached out to us, both companies knew that we wanted to raise money for Khalsa Aid to help the farmers stay strong in their protest. As La Finca translates to the Farm, everything clicked into place.

We ask that you help us by spreading the word, buying a bag of the La Finca Roast, or donate to Khalsa Aid directly. We hope that we can do our part to raise awareness and raise money to help aid the farmers. Together we make a difference.
