‘Ice to See You: Freezer Coffee Storage.

Growing up, my parents rarely drank coffee and instead chose to drink Chai-tea as their hot beverage of choice. So you could imagine my amazement when I heard that people were storing coffee in their freezer.

After speaking with avid coffee drinkers and doing research to satisfy my own curiosity, I found that storage coffee in the freezer actually works but only if its for long term storage. Keep in mind that the storage will have to be done right.

Firstly, you will need an airtight container to store your coffee beans in as any dry, freezer air and humidity can completely spoil the beans. Secondly, you should ensure that the beans aren’t staying in the freezer for extended periods of time. My research indicates that a month is a great length of time but more than that and the beans can be susceptible to spoiling. Finally, you need to ensure that you give the coffee beans enough time to thaw out completely and naturally. Do not open the container or introduce warm water to help speed up the thawing process.

Nothing will beat freshly roasted coffee but if you are going on holiday, or if you just bought a large bag of whole roasted coffee beans, you can store them in the freezer to maintain that fresh coffee taste.
