Behind The Beans: The Creative Process
As you can imagine, we have been working on the background for the updated bag look for quite some time. We wanted to give you a behind the scenes look at the creative process behind the redesign of the Singh Beans bags. I wanted to take time here and shoutout a few people who gave us such great advice and helped us through the entire creative process. Special shoutout to Tanisha, Alfred, and Ryan for everything you guys helped with!
I want to start off by saying that I, Amrit Reehal, am writing this blog post. I had to get that clear so it doesn’t come off like Jagdeep is a narcissist because I am going to be complimenting him throughout this post. For anyone that doesn’t know, Jagdeep Saggu, is not only one of the Co-Founder of Singh Beans, he is also the Co-Founder of Crown Studios and is a talented VFX artist working in the film and television industry. As if that wasn’t enough to fill your glass with Haterade, he is also a talented artist. Needless to say, Jagdeep was at the forefront of the creative design process. Here is a behind the scenes look at how he accomplished the painted labels.
The Black Garbage Bag
It started with a black garbage bag that is stretched and meticulously taped to the floor. Jagdeep used leftover paints from other projects to mix a various colour palettes.
Palette Knives
Jagdeep used a set of palette knives to mix the paints on a separate plate and then used mixed colours to create.
Mixing and Mingling
Various paint colours are layered across the surface to create a new texture and colour palette.
Round Two
Just like tipping over a vending machine, the redesign did not happen in one shot. These are some shots from a second session with different colour palettes!
Keep it Colourful
You can see in this picture that Jagdeep was aiming to get a great variance in colour and textures. I think this especially comes through with the Apanas bag.
Inspiration
Looks like Jagdeep was using Singh Beans coffee as inspiration during the Singh Beans redesign process. Using Singh Beans to create Singh Beans? That’s Inception.
The Final Product
There are many exciting changes coming to Singh Beans! I hope you enjoyed this behind the scenes look at the creative process.
