Four International Cookies that You Have to Try with Coffee
Are you tired of that fat dough boy on the Pilsbury Cookie Dough wrapper staring at you from the freezer? You aren’t going to make those cookies. Even if you do end up using that cookie dough, it will be a freezer-burned batch that you take to work to feed the savages that scavenge the kitchen. But can you blame them? Who doesn’t like a sweet treat with their cup of morning coffee?
Unfortunately for my figure, my sweet tooth doesn’t take a vacation when I do. During my travels internationally, I have come across some cookies that when combined with a cup of coffee, would provide an orchestra of flavour that even Beethoven could see. Here are four international cookies that I recommend you give a try:
PARLE G BISCUITS
If you know you know. Parle G Biscuits are from India and are widely eaten with chai tea. The G must stand for Genius. This is a tried and true biscuit that performs very well next to a rich and bitter coffee. Not only are the biscuits consistently delicious, they hold up well to high temperature beverages. Also, just look at that packaging. I think its fair to say that the Parle G girl is the Mona Lisa of cookie mascots. Move over Little Debbie, there’s a new queen of cookie.
CROWN COUQUE D’ASSE VIENNA COFFEE COOKIE
Where do you think these cookies are from, Austria or France? WRONG. These delicious coffee cookies are actually from South Korea. My friend Sean brought a box of these during a potluck we had. I had about 76 of them and ruined my appetite for dinner. It was so worth it. I ended up going to H-Mart, our local Korean market and bought an entire box for myself. The cookie itself holds up very well with coffee and compliments the bitter notes. Its almost as if these were made specifically for coffee.
MCVITIE’S MILK CHOCOLATE DIGSETIVES
I heard the Queen of England has two digestives after every meal and she is 108 years old. I want to give a special shoutout to all the family in the United Kingdom who showed me the milk chocolate digestives. I kept a bag of these cookies in my backpack as a snack while travelling through England. They have the perfect ratio of cookie to milk chocolate that will perfectly balance any beverage. You could also take a page out of my book and eat the entire package instead of having dinner. I am an adult.
BAHLESEN PICK UPS!
I came across Pick-Ups! in France when my girlfriend picked them off the shelf as a snack. This single spontaneous decision changed the course of my world forever. I now think of my life in two parts: Before and After Pick Ups!. These may be the greatest cookies of all time. I contemplated leaving all my clothes in France and just coming back home with a suitcase full of Pick Ups!.
We aren’t getting paid to tell you about these so I take no responsibility for any over indulgence.
